Diabetes and Acupuncture

Diabetes is linked with many health problems: low thyroid function, early onset of stroke, eye problems and neuropathy. More and more Americans are developing type II diabetes. Why is high blood sugar so detrimental to your health? The reason is that high blood sugar is toxic to blood vessels and nerves causing inflammation. If you observe the blood vessels of a diabetic patient, you will find that they look purple and enlarged indicating bad circulation. If these blood vessels are in the brain, the inflamed nerves can not get sufficient nutrients. This is how you can lose your memory and your vision in your early fifties. If blood vessels are damaged in your legs or hands, small cuts in those areas will not heal easily, eventually developing ulcers deep to the bone. If your blood vessels are damaged in your testicles or ovaries, you can develop impotence, ovarian cysts, an irregular period and possibly infertility. If the inflammation occurs in your prostate, you can develop prostatis or even prostate cancer. If the infection is in your thyroid, you will develop a hypothyroid condition. That is why diabetes and thyroid dysfunction always go hand in hand.

How can you stabilize your blood sugar to achieve optimal health? Eating whole foods is the key. You do not have to get rid of carbohydrates; you can eat whole wheat in moderation with vegetables. Eating fruits instead of drinking juice will help your body process the fructose slowly because of the fibers in the fruit. Simple sugars in processed food can go to your blood within half an hour, making your blood sugar spike right away. Your body will try to produce more insulin to quickly move the blood sugar into your fat cells, and your sugar can drop to very low levels after an hour. You will need another fix to bring up your blood sugar. This up-and-down process not only damages your blood vessels and nerves, but also can make you very moody and tired. The good thing about eating simple sugars is that you feel happy for half an hour because the simple sugars induce endorphin release right away and you do not need enzymes to digest sugar, so no gas and bloating. But simple sugars do not provide any nutrients, and slowly cause inflammation in every part of your body, including joints without you knowing it.

Glucose intolerance is the condition in which insulin can not function normally due to too much sugar intake every day, which desensitizes insulin receptors. Even though you have normal fast blood sugar, sharp elevated blood sugar levels right after a meal can damage blood vessels and nerves irreversibly. The following study indicates that acupuncture treatment can prevent blood sugar surges induced by chemicals artificially; thus acupuncture can prevent neuropathy, stroke and even dementia. Healthy blood vessels and nerves are crucial for the normal function of the heart and brain. If you would like to remember your children's names by the age of eighty, please avoid processed food.

In a 2011 Journal of Endocrinology Investigation, Dr. Jiang YL, et. al used a single abdominal injection of a chemical called streptozotocin (STZ) to induce high blood sugar in rats. Rats were randomly divided into six groups: control, diabetes, preventive acupuncture plus streptozotocin injection, STZ injection plus therapeutic acupuncture, streptozotocin injection plus preventive and therapeutic acupuncture, and preventive and therapeutic acupuncture control. Body weight, blood glucose, serum insulin, lipid peroxidation, and antioxidant enzymes were measured by routine standard methods. Histological analysis of pancreatic islets was conducted. Their results showed that preventive acupuncture significantly reduced blood sugar levels, enhanced insulin efficiency, reduced body weight and pancreatic islet damage in rats with streptozotocin injection; it also significantly reduced serum lipid peroxidation and enhanced superoxide dismutase in the serum and the pancreas, which reduced oxidation stress and preceded the blood from clotting.

In clinical practices, when we applied acupuncture to type I and type II diabetes patients after each meal, their blood sugar reading usually is lowered within two hours. Since people can not have acupuncture everyday to lower their blood sugar, eating low glycemic index food and doing regular exercise are also very important to resensitize the insulin receptor so that with the lowered level of insulin, people can still achieve an optimized blood sugar level. If you build more muscles through exercise, your body will use lower levels of insulin to stabilize blood sugar levels. Insulin itself is a growth factor, which can lead to an imbalance of hormones and chronic inflammation. If you pay attention to people who start using insulin for a couple of years, you will notice they all have a big belly and very thin limbs as they lose muscle mass.

Acupuncture not only can help the body stabilize blood sugar levels, but it also can be used to treat neuropathy because it can improve blood circulation to your hands and feet to facilitate peripheral nerve regeneration . The most recent article in Neuroscience. 2011 by Cidral-Filho FJ et. al. indicating that manual acupuncture inhibits mechanical hypersensitivity induced by spinal nerve injury in rats, which helps reduce the pins-and-needles sensation. Jin Z et. al did human clinical research in 2011 and found that electroacupuncture and acupoint injection with methylcobalamin can increase motor and sensory nerve incidence velocity, control and relieve the symptoms of diabetic peripheral neuropathy.

Medical Condition Symptoms Can See Relief Through Acupuncture

Chiropractors and acupuncturists have been around for thousands of years helping people to feel better by improving their health and reducing inflammation. Acupuncture centers on the individual's “chi” energy, and when that energy is broken it affects the way the body works. When the chi is broken, imbalances will occur and many people will seek the benefits of physical manipulation.

An acupuncturist would be able to assist individuals with many medical conditions such as:

• Chronic pain – Alternative treatments provide much needed relief and help to increase the endorphins in the body. This includes diseases such as arthritis, multiple sclerosis (MS), lupus, fibromyalgia, and more. Acupuncture points are all connected to the nervous system.

• Musculoskeletal disorders include neurological, nervous, lymphatic, and circulatory systems – Eastern medicine is able to release muscle tension through the connective tissues and physical manipulation. Disorders can be both invented and treated along with speeding up the healing process and the ability to manage pain.

• Allergies – The common cause of allergies consist of the immune system reacting to pollen, chemicals, animals, and dust. Food allergies are not only common, but can cause additional complications. These complications can be diagnosed as joint pain, kidney problems, diabetes, glaucoma, depression, learning disorders, and heart palpitations.

• Drug recovery – Patients can see great relief from withdrawal symptoms while detoxing from drugs. The acupuncturist will help with relieving tension, and bringing out relaxation within the patient.

• Disorders and Diseases – Over 50 various internal and external medical problems can be either cured or at least treated by acupuncture. These problems can include hypertension, bronchitis, asthma, ulcers, and diarrhea.

• Chronic fatigue syndrome – The illness is affected by a weakened immune system which brings out intense fatigue, chronic pain, and problems with internal organs. An acupuncturist is able to help improve the body's immune system.

• Stress – Stress is one of the leading causes of serious health issues that can in turn hurt the person's health, and many are even fatal. Stress causes a number of health problems including cancer, stroke, heart disease, respiratory, nervous symptoms and more. Chinese medicine has found that stress created an imbalance in the body by affecting the energy.

Acupuncturists encourage their patients to take their time while seeking treatment and it will take several sessions before the patient will experience relief from their health problems. It's an ongoing process that patients will need to understand that this type of medical treatment will not provide instant gratification.

Acupuncture Brings Numerous Benefits

Getting in touch with an acupuncturist is conducive to not only your physical health but your mental and spiritual health. An acupuncturist has the ability to help relieve various medical conditions, and remove the pain. The practice of acupuncture is not a new therapy but it's a Chinese Eastern therapeutic medical practice that is thousands of years old. It focuses on the body's energy also known as “chi.” When there is a blockage of energy that it affects the body's organ's ability to work properly by bringing disease.

Acupuncturists are able to assist patients with a variety of health conditions including:

• Treating chronic pain and symptoms from neurological diseases such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, lupus and more.

• Musculoskeletal disorders including circulatory, nervous, lymphatic, and respiratory systems. Acupuncture has the ability to prevent and treat these disorders. It has the ability to speed up the healing process, which has a huge popularity with professional athletes.

• Drug Recovery through the use of relieving the tension involved with drug and alcohol addiction.

• Allergies are brought on by the immune system reacting to environmental elements such as dust, pollen, and chemicals. These allergens are also present through foods such as wheat, milk, shellfish and more which can cause allergic reactions to occur.

Those with allergies usually experience watery eyes, sneezing, and stuffy nose for environmental elements. Allergies can cause additional reactions and serious problems such as heart palpitations, joint pain, diabetes, kidney problems, depression, learning abilities, and glaucoma. Alternative treatment, such as eastern medicine, is able to flush out the toxins and heal the body.

Acupuncturists do not require the use of any technology in this fast moving technological driven world. The acupuncturist professional uses hair-thin needles on affected areas of the body that can not be felt. Keep in mind that relief does not always occur overnight but will take several sessions to treat chronic ongoing health conditions.

Acupuncture therapy has the positive side effects including:

• Reducing insomnia occurrences through encouraging better sleep after each acupuncture session. Patients do not always recognize the changes until a follow-up visit with the acupuncturists. Lack of sleep is one the most common complaints and patients will see an instant change in better sleep.

• More energy after each acupuncture session within several hours to several days after each treatment. Patients will feel more motivated to exercise instead of taking a post-lunch nap.

• Less stress is one of the main reasons why patients go see an acupuncturist. The acupuncturist reduces their patient's levels of stress and evening out their moods.

Estrogen, Testosterone Acupuncture, and Prostate Cancer

Dr. John Lee said estrogen can be the angel of life and the angel of death. When estrogen is metabolized abnormally, it can modify the gene expression and alter important intracellular signaling sequences that promote abnormal cell growth and endothelial damage by creating vasoconstriction and causing high cholesterol. So too much estrogen can be a weak DNA damaging (genotoxic) carcinogen and stimulate tumor-cell activators. For women, abnormally metabolized estrogen can lead to uterus, breast and ovarian cancer; for men, prostate cancer. A new article published in Molecular Cell Endocrinology in 2012 explained that testosterone can be converted to estradiol by aromatase in the fat cells, breast cells, endothelial cells and prostate cells. Dr. Bosland MC of U. of Illinois at Chicago did an experiment in which estradiol is applied to the rats. When he did so, prostate cancer incidence gradually increased and even a short course of estrogen treatment resulted in a high incidence of prostate cancer.

Fourty years ago, prostate cancer was usually more common in older people. By the age of eighty, more than 50% of men had an enlarged prostate. But most older men do not die of prostate cancer, because they do not have imbalanced estrogen and testosterone levels. Some men develop prostate cancer, while others do not. This depends how the testosterone is metabolized. The testosterone can be metabolized to 5alpha-dihydrotestosterone which can not be aromatized to estrogen and severely induces prostate cancer. On the other hand, if too much testosterone is converted by an enzyme called aromatase into estrogen, it may lead to prostate cancer. Therefore it is not testosterone itself but how it is metabolized that leads to prostate cancer. Estrogen receptors are expressed in the prostate and may mediate which direction the testosterone can be metabolized. In the rat prostate, DNA damage can result from estrogen treatment; this phenomenon can occur prior to cancer development and at exactly the same location. Masayoshi Hiramatsu et al. suggested in a book called Prostate that overexpression of aromatase, possibly attributable to abnormal gene regulation, may result in abnormal estrogen production in situ and play a role in the induction or development of human prostatic disorders.

The reason more and more younger men diagnosed with benign prostate enlargement and prostate cancer even in their forties or fifties is because as a society, we eat more processed food or simple sugars every day, which can be converted into fat due to our sedentary life style . Simple sugars can lead to an insulin surge, which causes inflammation. More fat means more testosterone which can be converted into estrogen by aromatase. An abnormal level of estrogen, stress, lack of exercise and inflammation together can turn on bad gene expression. Drinking alcohol regularly may not only cause impotency due to lowered levels of testosterone, but also increase activity of aromatase abnormally, which can lead to more intracellular estrogen production from testosterone.

How does acupuncture help prevent or treat prostate cancer? First, acupuncture can balance your immune function to reduce general infection, which is closely related with cancer development. Second, acupuncture can change the way you metabolize by improving your digestive and thyroid function. So when you eat certain foods, instead of storing all the calories as fat, you produce more energy and heat to let your body work more efficiently- less fat and less estrogen means less gene mutation. Third, acupuncture can reduce stress improving your sleep, reducing anxiety and enhancing natural killer-cell activity, which is critical during chemo- and radiation therapy treatment. Fourth, acupuncture help your body produce more feel-good hormones, such as GABA, serotonin and dopamine, so you do not have to drink alcohol to feel good and relax.

Knowing When It’s Time To Consider Acupuncture Services

Everyday more and more people are turning to alternative forms of medicine as a way to heal from pre-existing health issues and to become more healthy. People are more conscious of loving a healthy and balanced lifestyle and are now more open to new forms of health care and ways of living. One form of medical treatment that continues to grow in popularity in Canada and across North America is acupuncture.

Acupuncture is an alternative form of medicine that originated more than a thousand years ago in China with the use of stones. The treatment is based on the idea of ”chi” or energy needs to flow freely through your body in order to create a healthy balance. If there is a blockage in your body (ie an injury, disease, or health condition) it needs to be corrected. This is done inserting tiny needles into specific areas on your body where energy centers exist. This process will open up the energy in this area and remove the blockage, which will help to improve your health condition.

There are many different reasons why people are turning to this form of treatment to help them improve their healthier. Here are some of the most common reasons:

• They want to try something new: Many people turn to acupuncture simply because they want to try something new, especially if their current health solutions are not providing them with the results they want. You never know what is going to work until you try it and people are being more open-minded about how they approach health care in general.

• When other methods are no longer working: Most people turn to this type of alternative medicine because their current methods are no longer working and they are looking for new ways to improve their health.

• They do not want to take medication: An increasing number of people are turning to acupuncture because they want to take a more holistic approach to their health. They do not want to use medication and drugs as the only want to deal with their health issues. Acupuncture is a great alternative to more traditional health care options.

• They are tired of chronic pain and suffering: A large number of people decide to try acupuncture because they are tired of chronic pain that is a result of a previous injury, disease, or health condition. If you can not find relief from your current treatment, you need to look into other methods that could help improve your condition.

• Financial reasons: The cost of prescriptions can get extremely expensive, especially if you do not have insurance. So, people are trying this form of treatment because it is more cost effective when compared to other health care options.

• Are curious about it: Finally, some people are just curious about acupuncture, the experience, and the theory behind the practice.

There are many different reasons for people to try acupuncture. For some it is simply about trying something new, while for others it is about finding relief for a long term issue.

Can Acupuncture Cure Infertility?

If you've been wondering if acupuncture can help cure your infertility, I would like to share with you my experience with acupuncture, how it helped me increase my infertility of many years, and what I've learned.

I was clinically diagnosed with infertility for multiple years, and spent tens of thousands of dollars on traditional western medicine treatments such as IUIs with Clomid and IVF both fresh and frozen rounds – all in vain as I tried to get pregnant.

It was only after I was receiving acupuncture treatments, that I was able to overcome my unexplained infertility, quickly get pregnant and deliver a healthy baby.

I Used to Be a Skeptic.

I have to admit I was a skeptical of the whole acupuncture to cure infertility idea. My thoughts were that if the western doctors, some of the finest fertility specialists with impressive degrees and their multi-thousand dollar treatments, could not get me pregnant … How could inserting a series of tiny little needles all over my skin get me pregnant ?

Seeing the wonderful effect that acupuncture had on me and how I was able to cure my infertility by adding acupuncture treatments, I believe the only reason why I considered acupuncture as “alternative medicine” is that it is not based on western knowledge.

Acupuncture Helped Me Cure Infertility.

In my experience, acupuncture provided me with effective, real results in my quest to cure infertility. It was not until I began using acupuncture and Chinese holistic treatments (which also helped me control my stress levels) – that I was able to get my body in the right place to be able to get pregnant and stay pregnant.

If you are considering using acupuncture as part of your efforts to beat infertility and get pregnant naturally, I encourage you to seek out an acupuncturist that specializes in fertility treatments.

Each acupuncture treatment is different for each individual, and only a highly specialized acupuncturist can find the right places to insert the needles and how deep each one should go (there is a difference in each placement depending on where they are inserted.)

How Acupuncture Can Help Cure Infertility.

Using acupuncture to cure infertility can help women with issues such as promoting ovulation, troubled menstrual cycles and irregular periods, and in men it can address problems such as blocked sperm ducts.

While I can not say that acupuncture can cure infection by itself, I can personally attest that it made a very big difference in my life and that it was instrumental in helping me beat injury infertility, get pregnant naturally and deliver my healthy daughter – after multiple western medical doctors had diagnosed me as infertile.

How Acupuncture Treats Insomnia

Hormones and the autonomous nervous system have to be balanced in order to initiate and maintain sleep. Many studies have shown that acupuncture treatments can help maintain the balance of biological chemicals in the central nervous system and promote the recovery of homeostasis.

1. Acupuncture can help your body produce more melatonin:

In an article published in the Journal of Neuropsychiatry and Clinical Neuroscience , Spence et al. explored the relationship between melatonin and acupuncture treatments. They observed a significant increase in endogenous melatonin secretion in all of the 18 patients suffering from severe insomnia who were given acupuncture treatments twice a week for 5 weeks. Records of electrical and muscular states during the entire sleeping time indicated that, after acupuncture treatments, the patients took less time to fall asleep, had fewer occasions of waking up during sleep, and experienced increased total sleep time and deep sleep time. Anxiety, depression, and fatigue were also decreed. Interestingly, alertness in the morning was reduced as well.

2. Acupuncture can improve blood flow to improve sleep quality

Hecht and his colleagues studied the relationship between the blood flow to the brain and insomnia. They noted that an insufficient blood flow to the brain could lead to low sugar levels and spontaneous waking from sleep. Dr. Omura explored the effects of blood flow to the brain on the dysfunctions of various organs. When blood pressure in the head was very low (less than 30 mmHg on both sides), a major of the subjects experienced sleep disorders: mainly insomnia but sometimes excessive sleepiness, difficulty concentrating, forgetfulness of recent events, and various degrees of irritability. Even with normal or higher arm blood pressure, one can still have low blood pressure in one's head. It has been reported that electroacupuncture stimulation of the points ST36 and GB20 (just inferior to occipital bone, between the trapezius and sternocleidomastoid attachments) can treat insomnia by increasing the blood flow to the brain.

3. Acupuncture can decrease effects of aging:

The weakening of parasympathetic function results in the familiar signs of aging, including increased and irregular heartbeats, constipation, insomnia, erectile dysfunction, fluid retention, and systemic inflammation. These consequences may in turn contribute to many of the common diseases associated with aging, including Type-II diabetes, Alzheimer's, arteriosclerosis, and cancer. The maintenance and restoration of parasympathetic function may boost the functions of the internal organs and slow the aging process. Acupuncture generally enhances the parasympathetic nervous system.

4. Acupuncture can reduce pain:

Meltzer at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia studied the effects of chronic pain on the sleep patterns of adolescent. He found no difference between the pain group and the healthy control group in total sleep time and bedtime. However, the group with chronic pain reported significantly longer sleep sleep latency, more frequent night waking, later wake times in the morning, and more symptoms of daytime sleepiness. Acupuncture has a very good analgesic effect and can thereby help people with pain improve their sleep quality.

5. Acupuncture can reduce stress hormones to treat insomnia

When we are under chronic stress, such as over-thinking and overworking, our body produces more cortisol to keep us alert during the daytime. When we are under acute stress, such as a fight-or-flight condition, our body produces more epinephrine (adrenaline) and norepinephrine. These two stress hormones deeply affect our sleep quality. Vgontzas and colleagues at thePennsylvania State University assessed the association of chronic insomnia with the activity of the stress system. They measured the levels of free cortisol, norepinephrine, and growth hormone in the urine of the participants and found that free cortisol levels correlated positively with total wake time; norepinephrine levels correlated positively with the duration of stage 1 sleep but negatively with the duration of stage 3 and 4 (deep) sleep. Both branches of the stress system (the adrenal gland and the sympathetic nervous system) are accountable for the sleep disorders in chronic insomnia. When we are stressed, our sleep is much lighter, so we wake up more frequently. Acupuncture can lower stress hormone levels, thereby reducing wake time and increasing deep sleep time. It is well known that cortisone can influence sleep when we receive a hydrocortisone shot.

In conclusion, by optimizing the production and metabolism of chemicals that affect sleep and balancing our nervous systems, acupuncture can maintain the appropriate sleep pattern and duration.

Everything You Need to Know: How to Become an Acupuncturist and/or Oriental Medical Doctor (OMD)

What has brought you to the field of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (OM)? Was it an experience you had? Or, maybe you are researching new alternative medicine. Whatever the answer may be, it is noticeable that the public is becoming more aware of the effectiveness of Acupuncture, Oriental Medicine and other holistic alternative medical practices. The limits of Western Medicine has led to the awareness of alternative medicine such as OM and Acupuncture. Over 2,500 years old (much older than Western Medicine), Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese or Oriental Medicine (TCM or OCM) continues to gain public acceptance in the United States making it a growing growing professional field.

The journal, “Evidence-Based Supplemental and Alternative Medicine,” reported that more people are trying acupuncture treatment. The National Health Review Survey along with the US Census Bureau reported that there was an increase from 8 million Americans using acupuncture in 2002 to 14 million acupuncture patients in 2007. This is a staggering increase since only two decades ago very few (less than 1% ) reported using acupuncture. This is great news for medical practitioners-to-be who are looking to expand their knowledge and the field of medical science. It is also great news for those who Western medicine were unable to treat.

Treating Menstrual and PMS Issues With Acupuncture

The female gender certainly has it rough with their monthly cycle. While there are many women out there that have easy, short periods that severely cause an inconvenience, there are many more that suffer a great deal. Alternative treatments can help with the relief of many of these issues.

Female hormones affect more than just their reproductive system. They affect how a woman feels and even how she looks. There are many conditions relative to the reproductive system that can be treated with acupuncture and other Eastern medicines. Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and Premenstrual Syndrome are both very common issues that women have. When it comes to premenstrual syndrome, women can suffer from symptoms that range from incredibly moody to suffering from pain. The pain can be moderate to sever due to the cramping needed to expel the entire lining of the uterus that had thickened. Patients often are seeking relief of these symptoms and can see the immediate benefits of the Eastern treatments.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome has a widespread impact on a woman's body. It can cause unnatural hair growth, cause the cycle to be sporadic, even stop entirely for extended periods of time, depression, moodiness, weight gain without the ability to lose it, and the list goes on. Seeking acupuncture help is a natural approach to balancing out the hormones. Those experiencing discomforts from their monthly cycle will need physical manipulation to put their body back into alignment. The supplements can help a patient with a few of their ailments, but only a treatment can reduce the inflammation, bloat, and pain. This means that the woman can be who they are made to be physically inside and out.

Hormonal issues that influence the monthly cycle can also cause migraines, fibromyalgia, and many more ailments. When taking a holistic approach through acupuncture, it will help balance out the energy that is needed to maintain one's health. By deciding to treat one's menstrual cycle through acupuncture can help decrease the problems that may not even seem like they would be related.

It has been shown over time that having acupuncture performed will increase the blood flow, decrease the cramps, and offer and overall reduction of negative side effects that Mother Nature brings on. It is amazing that Western doctors are not as tuned into the benefits that come from making sure your spine is in alignment. The menstrual cycle should not stop your life every month, and it should not be allowed to dictate how you survive.

How Acupuncture Works – Study Vs Science

You may have heard that acupuncture is great for relieving stress, pain, sleep issues, digestive disorders, breathing problems, headaches, fertility concerns, and so on … but do you know how it actually does all these things? Well, the answer is both complicated and simple. Confused yet? Keep reading.

Remember that acupuncture (a modality of Traditional Chinese Medicine, aka TCM) is not based on scientific, but rather clinical evidence. That is to say, 5000 years ago when people first started figuring out what worked and what did not when they pressed certain points, there were no fancy machines to measure current, blood flow, and so on. What worked … worked … and since science did not yet exist anyway, it did not matter why it worked. So people just kept doing what worked and never worried about a scientific explanation. They explained theories of medicine that helped them explain to each other what was happening, but none of this was based on science. It was based on theories that were based on clinical evidence, and since people kept getting positive results, over generations of use, no one thought anything of it. Then nearly 5000 years later, along came science.

Since we've all grown up with science, we expect it to explain everything for us. In this age of information, we constantly hear about tests and studies that seem to prove or disprove one thing or another. Sometimes (surely in another 5000 years!) Science will explain most things to us, one of which will likely be acupuncture. But where are we so far? Well, science has so far derived that the element Qi (defined most closely as 'energy') can not be measured quantitatively. That is, there is evidence subjectively that Qi exists (it can be felt), but there has not yet been a study that can measure Qi. Since Qi is a very important part of TCM, this presents a problem. Nonetheless, enough scientific studies have been done to show evidence that acupuncture does something, even if we can not yet measure Qi.

So what happens when you poke someone with an acupuncture needle? (More correctly, it's actually the combination of the right points that has the most dramatic effect of most of the time, but a single point can still activate some things.) Well, neuroimaging studies have shown that acupuncture can relax certain areas of the brain responsible for pain reception. Ultrasound show that acupuncture improves blood flow. And thermal imaging shows that acupuncture reduces infections where needed. Beyond this, many acupuncture meridians (pathways of energy) correspond to nerve pathways or arteries. Some of the major points, like one in your hand, sit where a few different nerves and blood vessels pass by. So although many are still skeptical about acupuncture, the evidence is growing in its favor, and more than likely science will 'catch up'. Since acupuncture can help in so many ways, let's just hope it does not take 5000 years.

Sourcing Acupuncture Products

Acupuncture is a well known treatment that can really help people who have true issues with their health. Like in all other treatments acupuncture doctors and healers also need supplies, but in this case not drugs but needles. So, acupuncture supplies are actually those thin needles that are inserted into the human skin in different places to release the pain. There are several models of needles that are used to heal several issues. These needles vary in length, gauge and medical benefits. On the market, if you do not pay attention on what you are buying, you might get something that will not help you at all, but on the contrary it might make things worse. There are needles with plastic handle, copper handle, coated, or not covered which are used for many kinds of indications.

The main reason why patients may buy acupuncture supplies is doubts about quality issues. Some patients do not trust the instruments which are used in clinics. Better said they do not think that all those needles are properly sterilized, and they fear that they will get another illness trying to cure their first problem. Indeed, if the acupuncture needles are not properly sterilized one can get other health issues. It is easy to notice if something went wrong with the acupuncture treatment because the side- effects are visible to the naked eye. You will notice bruises or some red spots on your skin. This usually happens if the needles were not properly inserted or somebody did not sterilize them properly before applying them to another person's body.

So, if you consider buying by yourself acupuncture supplies, you must first search what kind of needles you need as they vary according to the indications to treat different kinds of illnesses. If you are not sure, if those are the right ones you need, you can also ask your acupuncturist. He will definitely tell what you need and he knows what kinds of needles are preferred by him, too. After you finally discovered what sort of needles you need, you can start searching and comparing the prices that are on the market. Usually, the prices vary from store to store, and if the quality is high then the cost can also be expensive.

For you, it might be better to find a trustworthy supplier who can offer you the best prices for your acupuncture supplies. The first thing that you should do after making sure what you need is to start making comparisons between the prices of online shops and the shops from your local area. You might get surprised by the fact that prices vary so much from place to place. For example, online shops very often provide the most competitive prices. The cost per single needle is not that expensive, but you can make a good deal purchasing larger quantities from the internet. Please beware in any case that the quality may be a problem because not all suppliers have a good reputation. On the other side, when you purchase these supplies from a store near your local area at possibly only slightly higher purchase prices, then you can usually rent to a good quality product and you will also do not have to spend money for transportation .
